Open Since 2014
More than a decade of welcoming guests to the same building, the same team ethos, and the same amber-gold lobby. The hotel has never changed ownership and has no plans to expand beyond its current 22 rooms.
Our Story
Stoneaorbit was built on one conviction: that a hotel should feel like somewhere specific, not somewhere generic.
In 2012, brothers Alejandro and Tomás Vega bought a dilapidated 1921 pension on Calle de Alcalá and spent two years arguing about what it should become. The argument that lasted longest was about the floor tiles — original hydraulic cement tiles from the Valencian manufacturer that had supplied the building in 1921 were still partially intact, and the question of whether to restore them, replace them, or cover them entirely split the two brothers for months. They eventually hired a specialist tile restorer from Seville who spent four months on-site. Those tiles now run the full length of the lobby and the main staircase, and first-time guests almost always stop to photograph them. That decision — slower, more expensive, less convenient — set the pattern for everything that followed. Stoneaorbit opened in June 2014 with 22 rooms, a small team of seven, and a clear idea of the kind of hotel it didn't want to be.
The hotel is still owned by the Vega family, and Alejandro is present at the property most mornings. The team of 18 includes a head of housekeeping who has been with the hotel since opening day, a concierge team with a combined 30 years of Madrid knowledge, and a kitchen coordinator who sources every item on the breakfast menu directly from producers within 200 kilometres. Decisions about the hotel — from a room refurbishment to a new supplier — are made slowly and rarely reversed. The amber-gold palette that defines the interiors was chosen after 11 paint-sample iterations; the current bathroom fittings came from a third supplier after the first two couldn't meet the stone-matching specification. This is not perfectionism for its own sake — it's the practical consequence of running a place where guests return year after year and notice the difference. What we don't do: we don't operate events open to non-residents, we don't run conference facilities, and we don't pretend that a 22-room hotel can replicate every service a larger property offers. We're honest about our scale, and we think that honesty is part of what makes the stay work.

A deliberately small team where every member knows the hotel end-to-end. The longest-serving member of staff joined in the first week of opening in June 2014 and now leads housekeeping for all 22 rooms.
Stoneaorbit is a single-property hotel. There's no sister property in Barcelona, no franchise agreements, and no loyalty programme that dilutes the attention you receive when you're here. All of it goes into this building, on this street.
I've stayed at Stoneaorbit four times over five years and the thing that strikes me every visit is that the team remembers things — not just my name, but that I prefer my coffee black and that I like the room on the third floor overlooking the courtyard. That's not a system. That's people.
